I knew a funny guy, I knew a guy who during one of our first meetings told me, "let me know how I can help".
I knew a great host, well maybe that was Dolores Carrillo Garcia, but together, they hosted and opened their home to friends, to non-profits, to artists, to the community.
I knew a guy who loved to brag about you, not himself, he loved to tell you what cool things you were doing, and was quick to shrug off when you told him what you appreciated about him.
I knew a guy who never asked me for anything, and who never turned me down when I asked him for help. Help in promoting an event, hosting people at the house, and in giving a start to a collection and gallery in small local community driven place... to give a gift he might only get to enjoy once (and his smiles that day will live forever in my memory).
I knew a guy, who is honestly a legend, and I can say I am not just proud to have known him, but I am glad he got to see the fruits of his work through others, like me, and La Casa, things that he made possible... and I know he can rest knowing his impact will never end.
I knew a guy who gifted me a Sam Coronado print. It sits on a gallery wall in my house, and will always remind me of the Gil I knew.
